A presentation at Urunga Surf Club on Sunday November 4 saw member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker present the most recent recipient, Lyndee Thomas with her medal.
The award is presented to lifesavers who have completed a minimum of 15 years active patrol with 100 per cent completion rate.
As well as this, most have spent countless hours behind the scenes serving on committees at both club and branch level, coaching, training and examining new members, officiating at carnivals, fundraising and competing.
The awards were a result of the behind the scene efforts of Jim McCullagh who was prepared to jump through the red tape hoops for the benefit of the club.
The recipients are: Craig Delahunty (20+ years patrol), Paul Bastick (20+ yrs), Jason Ford (15+ yrs), Tracy Neaves (20+ yrs) & Lyndee Thomas (15+ yrs).
Builder’s Picnic Golf Day to raise funds for new inflatable
The Urunga Surf Lifesaving Club is trying to raise funds for a new Inflatable Rescue Boat and motor.
The current equipment is showing its age and a replacement is necessary to help keep our beach, and the swimming public safe. The current climate of increased shark sightings also requires the club to have fast reliable rescue equipment in case of emergency.
Thanks to the generosity of Urunga C.ex Golf Club, the surf club will again be hosting the annual Builder’s Picnic Golf Day on Friday December 7.
This event is an 18-hole, 3-man-ambrose event with a shotgun start at 9am. The cost has been kept at the amazingly low 2017 price of $50 a player and includes golf fees, all food on the day, complimentary drink and all players win a prize. There will be prizes for longest drive and nearest the pin.
Golf Carts will be auctioned off at 8.30 sharp, so if you don’t want to walk be there ready to bid. Numbers are strictly limited so get your names in early at either the Urunga Golf Club, the Ocean View Hotel or by contacting Paul Bastick (0403739940).
As always helpers will be needed on the day to man/woman food and refreshment tents, set up, pack up and everything in between. Could all helpers please contact Paul Bastick ASAP, (a great opportunity for the newly reformed OLD Boys to swing into action).
We are also seeking sponsors for the day, big and small. If any business would like to sponsor a hole, and advertise your business to the local “tradies”, or could supply any prizes in sets of three, your help would be greatly appreciated. The Surf Club is a registered charity so all donations are tax deductible. Any prospective sponsors can contact Paul Bastick, Gary Howe at the Bello or Urunga Newsagency or any surf club member.
