The 40-year-old man from the Dorrigo Plateau whose body was found in the back of a ute last month was allegedly shot during an altercation with the 43-year-old man from Dundurrabin who was arrested yesterday.
The body was found by ambulance officers who were responding to a Triple Zero call about a collision between two vehicles at the residence on Armidale Rd.
The two men and the 37-year-old woman who was driving the ute were all known to each other, but Mr O’Reilly would not answer questions about the nature of the relationship between them.
The involvement of the woman and others in the Dundurrabin area is the subject of further investigation.
The deceased was shot with a small calibre firearm, which has not yet been located.
Local detectives, the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, the dog unit, divers and Airwing have all been involved in the investigation.
A dam and other waterways have been searched for evidence.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A 43-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) on Park Avenue, Coffs Harbour and charged with the murder of a 40-year-old man from the Dorrigo Plateau whose body was found in the back of a ute at Dundurrabin last month.
About 2.30pm on Thursday October 18, emergency services were responding to reports of a crash outside a home on Armidale Road, Dundurrabin, when they were flagged down by a woman in a utility.
The body of a 40-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his torso was located in the rear tray of the utility.
Police will allege the man was shot during an altercation with an older man, aged 43, at the Armidale Road home.
The 37-year-old woman was arrested at the time; however, she was released pending further inquiries.
Strike Force Lawrencium was established by detectives from Coffs/Clarence Police District, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Following extensive inquiries, about 2.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 31 October 2018), a 43-year-old man was arrested on Park Avenue, Coffs Harbour, and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.
He was charged with murder and refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Thursday 1 November 2018)
