Long-term executive members Stephen Glyde and Colin Osland have stepped down from their positions to be replaced by a younger committee with some new ideas and a keen desire to get the Magpies back into the First Grade competition.
Stephen Glyde, who has been a lifelong sportsman and contributor to the community as player, referee and administrator, was a baton-bearer for the recent Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay as well as the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
His citation for February’s relay said: “Last year he was nominated to is a Life Member of Bellingen Rugby League Football Club and has been President for approximately 20 years. Over this time he has kept the club going and has developed a tremendous club culture for male and female members especially those of Indigenous heritage.”
Trent Matthews has stepped into the President’s role, Dylan Harry is the new Secretary and Marcus Lowe is the Treasurer. They are supported by virtually a new committee.
Realising that in no way can they compete financially with other Group 2 Clubs they hope to continue to build a culture in and around the club that attracts players and supporters with a desire to buy into that culture.
Former local product Daniel Tempest has been appointed as Head Coach.
Daniel played his junior rugby league before moving onto the senior ranks with the Magpies. He works as a trainer and is looking at introducing individual training programs that support player development outside of training sessions. Already a number of players have bought into this by signing with the club for 2019.
