But, for those who aren’t aware, it’s set in 19th century France and tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict who spends a lifetime seeking redemption, pursued by both Inspector Javert and the decisions of his past.
The Coffs Harbour Musical Comedy Company production features intertwining storylines, rich musical numbers, dramatic scenes and four Bellingen Shire locals.
Angela Gafen is performing in her first musical with CHMCC. Along with her love of music, she juggles family life as mother to three young boys, and work as a paediatric nurse at Coffs Base Hospital. She joins the cast in the ensemble, playing many small roles from Factory Worker to beggar.
Ben McLean from Urunga is also in the ensemble and it’s his first musical too.
Kaiyai Doenau from Repton has been performing with CHMCC for 10 years, in shows such as Oliver, Wicked and Rent. He is an accomplished dancer and has been performing since he was a young child. His presence on stage as the leader of the ABC Society of students, Enjolras, is truly breathtaking.
Ross Texidor is a Year 10 student at Bellingen High. His love of musical theatre has led him to star in in school's production of Beauty and the Beast, as well as CHMMC's Seussical The Musical in 2017. This time he takes the stage as student, Lesgles.
With en epic score featuring songs such as “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” and “Bring Him Home,” Les Misérables brings Victor Hugo’s revolutionary novel vividly to life.
The show runs at the Jetty Theatre in Coffs Harbour from November 2-25.
