Dorrigo will commemorate the centenary of the signing of the 1918 Armistice that ended World War 1 on Sunday November 11.

There will be a Wreath Laying Service at 10.30am with a march of veterans from the Dorrigo Memorial RSL Club to the Dorrigo monument. which will include the Dorrigo Light Horse Troop and a soldier in WW1 uniform.
Following the service there will be a community street party in the northern end of Hickory St from noon to 2.30pm.
The street will be decorated with flags, bunting and banners and everyone is invited to take part in this celebration of peace. Entertainment is being provided by the Bellingen Big Band.
Families are invited to bring tables, chairs and a picnic lunch and enjoy the atmosphere of the event. The Hickory Street Alcohol Free Zone has been temporarily suspended by Bellingen Shire Council from noon until 2.30pm to enable the community to BYO refreshments.
There will be games for children and competitions for the best decorated table and period costume. The Dorrigo Dramatic Club will hire period costumes. Dina Luciani will be at the theatre from 11am-1pm on Saturday November 3 for those wishing to borrow. Any specific enquiries before then to her on 6657 2243.
As part of the events leading up to Remembrance Day, Dorrigo businesses have been invited to create shop window displays that recognise the centenary of the Armistice and how we value our veterans in the week commencing October 29.
Entries are to showcase Dorrigo’s contribution to World War 1 100 years ago, and/or how Dorrigo’s War veterans have served their country in subsequent wars and conflicts, and in peacekeeping.
During the week prior to Remembrance Day a series of school visits to the Dorrigo Memorial RSL Club will be arranged to engage with veterans and experience the wartime memorabilia in the club.
Prior to the centenary, 10 brass plaques commemorating Australia’s engagement in wars from the Boer War to Afghanistan, and peacekeeping ,will be placed at the base of the 10 trees in the main street of the CBD.
