David Brown Shihan is a ‘teacher of teachers’, and one of the original students of Sugano Sensei, who founded Aiki Kai Australia in the 1960s.
Many of those attending the classes wore the traditional samurai black pants indicating a grade of black belt or higher, and some had travelled from Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Armidale and the Gold Coast to participate.
Locals who came along were from Dorrigo, Megan, Thora, Bellingen, Repton and Coffs Harbour.
Aikido of the Waterfall Way holds classes for adults and teenagers in the dance studio at the Bellingen Youth Hub on Tuesdays from 6pm–7.30pm and at Thora Community Hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm–7.30pm.
The groups are small and friendly and they welcome new members. The cost is $5 per class plus membership of Aiki Kai Australia.
