Volunteers will be involved in collecting monthly water quality data and will receive full training and support. This is a unique opportunity to learn new skills and support critical, ongoing research.
Mayor Dominic King said local waterways were used extensively for recreation and tourism as well as being a source of food and drinking water.
“It is vital that we keep our rivers healthy especially given the low rainfall we have been experiencing. This is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved while having fun and learning new skills,” Cr King said.
Bellingen Riverwatch is a joint project between OzGreen, NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Bellingen Shire Council, NSW Office of Local Land Services, Taronga Zoo, Western Sydney University, EcoLogical Australia, Earthwatch Institute, Bellinger Landcare Incorporated, Jaliigir Biodiversity Alliance and Waterwatch NSW.
