They loved it so much that they didn’t hesitate in promising to make the trip back to Bellingen for our next camp.
Adrian is running Hebel Carving, and you can see many examples of his projects at https://vanderlugt.com.au/adriaan-vanderlugt/sculptures-portfolio/
His students’ projects from our last camp can also be seen on the Camp Creative web site at https://campcreative.com.au/course/hebel-block-carving-2019
Hebel block carving involves sculpting a 3-D shape from a block of raw Hebel stone, which is basically aerated concrete that can be carved with wood working tools.
At the last course, Tim Robertson from Urunga said he hadn’t taken the softness of the stone sufficiently into account initially.
“On my first attempt the head came off the owl,” he said.
All the Hebel stone is sourced from a local company and the costs are kept to a minimum . Most campers attempt two major projects. The more intrepid take on three projects. As a bonus Adrian also includes a half day on drawing pencil portraits of his class.
Denise has a problem. She has so many things that she can do that it is hard to pin her down to a single area. This will be the second year of Adventures in Collage and campers will quickly find out, nothing gets thrown away. Denise’s work can be seen on https://vanderlugt.com.au/denise-vanderlugt-gallery/collages/ and her students’ work from last camp can be seen on the Camp Creative website https://campcreative.com.au/course/adventures-in-collage-2019
