Firies for an hour

Students from years 1 and 2 at Dorrigo Public School were ablaze with excitement to have hands-on learning about the job of a firefighter.

Under the direction of Acting Brigade Captain Tony Noble and Firefighter Nathan Spencer, students experienced most aspects of fire brigade life.

In return they heaped questions on their hosts, most of them in the realm of: What’s that for?

There were practical experiences with fire brigade equipment and every student had a turn of the fire hose.

The visit, led by Librarian Angela Mills, and Relieving Principal Leah Keough, was part of a unit of work which looks at types of built environments in our community, how they are utilised and how they are built for specific purposes.

“Our students thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the fire station and we are especially grateful for the patience and communication skills of Tony and Nathan,” Ms Keough said.

“I think that memories of the morning’s visit will remain with the children for a very long time.”
