Launched in Newcastle last August, the Crave App lets the hungry find their perfect match in terms of a meal in much the same way that Tinder helps those who are looking for love.
After entering details about where you are, how much you want to spend, and what you feel like eating, you are presented with a set of professionally photographed meals to swipe through.
A tap brings up more information and a swipe to the right saves whatever tickles your taste buds to your favourites list.
Offering a discovery service and special deals rather than an ordering service, the aim of the app is to drive business back into cafes and restaurants.
In the last year, it’s been downloaded 13,700 times and on Thursday it launched on the Coffs Coast, with the Sydney and Melbourne markets scheduled for later in the year.
Fifteen businesses on the Coffs Coast have signed up so far, including two from Bellingen – The Purple Carrot and 5 Church St.
There’s also Latitude 30, Twenty46 Cafe, Open Air Cafe, The Hoey Moey, The Pier Hotel, The Yachtie and Elements Bar and Restaurant.
Marketer Chris Grieve from Paradox Media described the Crave app as “a terrific way for local hospitality businesses to showcase their amazing food offering to not just locals but tourists as well in a very clever visual way”.
Listings are free for businesses, but to maintain the standard of the imagery there is a $150 fee for a professional photo shoot of the dishes on offer.
