The Bellingen Swiss Patisserie and Bakery amassed a triumph of awards at the 2018 Australia's Best Pie Competition.
Hosted by the Baking Association of Australia, the competition involved bakeries from around Australia.
Judges took on the enviable task of tasting more than two thousand pies from across the country to find Australia’s best.
The business won a silver award for their Hungarian goulash pie and four bronze awards for their curry chicken pie, chicken and mushroom pie, pepper pie and spinach, feta and pine nut pie.
The pies scored full points for their fillings. As all pies are made from scratch onsite and generously crammed full of locally-sourced ingredients it’s not hard to see why.
Owner Rick Rickenbach says local produce is at the heart of their philosophy but he also credits his wife, Daniela, as not only an excellent pastry cook but as the designer of all the pie fillings.
We knew the pies were good, as we eat them ourselves, but to win these awards was a really lovely surprise."
- Rick Rickenbach
Congratulations also go to baker Shaun, who made the pastry for the competition pies and has been manufacturing them with Daniela.
Daniela has also designed an abundance of vegetarian pie options. Plus with a growing fan base is the quiche. It changes daily and is always vegetarian.
For those with a sweet tooth, there is a new sensation that you must try – the Grand Marnier Chocolate Mousse Dome.
The dessert pictured here is the new creation by Rick and he believes you will find this absolutely delectable.
It’s made with Grand Marnier soaked orange pieces in a chocolate mousse and covered with a thin layer of chocolate.
It’s a decadent accompaniment to a delicious cup of coffee, and the good news is, all the team are barista trained, even the bakers, so you are sure to get a great coffee even at 5.00am when the shop opens.
Also new on the menu, is a Baked European cheesecake, which Rick says customers are really loving.
Why not head over to Church Street and taste an award-winning pie.
