This equates to around one billion dollars a year in lost sales across Australia.
With the recent roll out of Inclusive Tourism Workshops across the Shire, attending businesses received a great insight in to the dynamics and value of the Inclusive Tourism market.
The workshops were conducted by Inclusive Tourism Pty Ltd who specialise in consulting with tourism associations and businesses on how to make their businesses and destinations more accessible.
“Accessibility is so important when you consider it includes not only visitors with disabilities but also our ageing population and families with young children,” Bellingen Shire Mayor Cr Dominic King said.
A follow up three hour workshop will be conducted in August around Disability Awareness Training in a Customer Service Environment.
The training will cover: the types of visible and invisible disabilities, appropriate language, behaviour, etiquette and coverage of relevant legislation.

The cost of this workshop has been subsidised down from $95 per head through grant funding secured by Council in an endeavour to make the training broadly available.
