The 18s kicked off and the Magpies were quick to get down to business with some ravaging tackles made by Dane Cross, Ryan Munday, Taniela Bula and Leighton Borthwick. Fantastic hit ups were run by Malek Afuamua and Joel Kearsley. Unfortunately Coffs scored two tries due to a fatigued defence, as the Magpies had no one on the bench. Halftime score Magpies nil Coffs 12.
Mckye Davis-Tucknott ran a good line late in the second half to make a long break then he offloaded it to Taniela Bula to score next to the posts. Taniela then converted his try to make the score Magpies 6 Coffs 26. Moments later the Magpies made a break then chip kicked it over the defence to re-gather and swing it out wide for Kalani Morris to score. Full time score Magpies 10 Coffs 26.
In Reserve Grade the first 15 minutes went by scoreless. Wayne Martin and John Bond made some great try saving tackles. In this period some loose defence caused Coffs to slip in three tries. From the kick-off the Magpies rampaged back down the field to pass it out wide for Malek Afuamua to offload to Dane Cross to score out wide. Josh Shearim converted the try to take the score Magpies 6 Coffs 18. Malek made a great break early in the second half and shortly after the Magpies swung the ball out wide for John Bond to score, Josh Shearim converted from the sideline to make it Magpies 12 Coffs 18. Louis Taylor scored a gutsy try on the bell taking the final score to Magpies 16 Coffs 40.
Once again our Bello girls were victorious over the Coffs Comets. You couldn’t fault our performance at the Comet’s home ground, the girls played awesome, with Rachel Devine scoring a try in the 10th minute off a clever Marion Campbell pass with Sarah Beaumont converting. Tina McRae scored the second try of the day in the 14th minute for the Magpies to lead 10-0 at half time.
In the second half it got a bit intense, but you could count on our Bello girls to hold it together and work as a team. Tina then scored her second try with Sarah converting once again for the Magpies to win 16-0. Well done ladies, the wedding spirit must have been with the team too. Congratulations Victoria and Matty.
Next week the Magpies make the road trip to Grafton to take on the Ghosts in three grades.
