Currently the outdoor area in the cafe strip between Hyde St and the laneway has 84 seats designated for restaurant patrons and 16 available for members of the public.
The survey on the Create website asks people to choose between two options for the seating plan when this area is upgraded.
The survey also includes a free-text box for adding your own feedback on other aspects of the designs, such as the LED screen.
The Q&A section on Create clarifies that this is “an electronic noticeboard [that] may be used for things like advertising, information on events and activities, tourism or providing pictorials of our beautiful valley”.
The electronic noticeboard is still up for discussion with council and will be decided as part of the final concepts, so if you have a view on this, you could express it as part of your survey feedback.
Under both options there would be a total of 142 seats arranged as tables for eight, four and two people.
Option 1
Option 1 provides 16 public seats that are arranged as two tables each seating eight, with one of the public tables between Cardow & Partners and Black Bear and the other outside the Swiss Patisserie.
Option 1 also provides 126 restaurant seats, as 24 tables seating four people and 15 tables seating two people.
Option 2
Option 2 has twice as much public seating. There are four tables seating eight people, with the two additional tables towards the middle of the strip.
Option 2 provides 110 restaurant seats, with the number of four-seater tables reduced to 20.
Shop owners and retailers in this precinct have been invited to meet with council one-on-one to discuss the proposed seating options, and a second combined conversation is planned.
The point of the Create website survey, which is open until Tuesday July 31, is to allow the broader community to provide their input.
Council says the aim of the final layout is to achieve a balance between commercial activity, mobility and general public access.
