Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, said the plans will assist grass roots sport across the region by providing targeted sports programs and facility development.
“This is a great opportunity for sporting groups to have a say on what they would like to see prioritised,” Mrs Pavey said.
The Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, John Barilaro MP, said the plans draw on concepts developed by the Australian Sports Commission.
“This is an important first step in the process of gathering community feedback to ensure that we invest in the right mix of sports facilities that meet the needs of unique communities,” Mr Barilaro.
“Nine Sport and Active Recreation plans have been developed with 30 - 40 initiatives specific to each regional area.
“The plans will support participation across the state, by improving access to sports grounds and supporting programs that foster community involvement.
Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres, said key proposals in the plans like the ‘stay in your sport’ coach education program will encourage promising athletes to continue their sport.
“We are also looking to attract more valued sporting events to regional NSW, plan female-friendly sporting facilities and establish hubs to support multi-purpose sports.”
Feedback is invited by Thursday, July 19 at the Office of Sport, www. sport.nsw.gov.au/regionalplans
