The major festival venue, Bellingen Memorial Hall, has been decorated with a flock of flying book birds and organisers have been assured that disruptive roadworks immediately outside the hall will cease over the long weekend.
Leunig cartoons and other book-themed decorative flourishes have been popping up around town, and the primary school students have been getting into the spirit of the event too, creating visual book reviews that will be on display at the library until June 18.
Each student identified a book they enjoyed reading and combined images and words to visually represent their response it, using a variety of materials and techniques.
Also on display at the library are books by some of the writers who will be attending the Readers and Writers Festival.
