A total of 82 hatchlings have come from one nest. Forty-two emerged from the nest on the first night, Tuesday April 17, without assistance, then a single hatchling did likewise the following night.
On the fourth night the NPWS and volunteers undertook an excavation of the nest releasing another 37 healthy hatchlings that had become trapped beneath the roots of coastal Spinifex Grass.
These hatchlings would most likely have perished had there not been intervention.
