COMMUNITY FUNDS
Council staff have been busy reviewing a number of Council Community Grant Programs including the Community Support, Community Events Sponsorship and Creative Placemaking Funds. These are three of Council’s small grant programs currently offered under two competitive rounds each financial year. Round 1 for the 2018/19 year is due to open in early May pending a report to Council outlining some key changes to these Funds.

The funds support events and activities that provide a broad community benefit across a number of different themes. Given the changes to each of these Funds, an information session is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 15 May in the Council Chambers from 5.15pm to 6pm. Anyone interested in attending the information session, or would like more information regarding the Community Grant Programs should contact Council’s Grants and Business Development team.
GLENIFFER RESERVES WORKS
It is good to see that the Gleniffer Reserves infrastructure protection works will be undertaken during May. These works were postponed late last year to reduce community and visitor impact over the summer months.
The works will improve the health and condition of the riparian zone, address the eroding river bank in Earl Preston Reserve and protect public infrastructure, including Gleniffer Hall and Promised Land Bridge. This project is a partnership between Council and the Never Never Catchment Group. Additional riparian rehabilitation works are planned later in 2018 including invasive plant management and tree planting. Visit the Create Community Engagement Hub at http://create.bellingen.nsw.gov.au/ for further information.
ANZAC DAY
ANZAC Day services will be held at Dorrigo, Bellingen, Repton and Urunga on Wednesday 25 April and I encourage our community, both young and old to pay tribute to the service, courage and sacrifice of our ex-servicemen and women and to give support to current defence force members who are engaged in overseas missions. This will be the first ceremony at the newly revamped Bellingen Cenotaph with last minute touches to lighting and signage being undertaken in time for Anzac Day. I am looking forward to attending both the Bellingen and Dorrigo ceremonies and Cr Carter will represent Council at Urunga.
As a lead up to Anzac Day, popular locals Kevin & Moira Franklin held an ANZAC Presentation and display at Bellingen Library on Thursday 19 April. Kevin is a familiar sight at ANZAC Day parades and both Kevin and Moira regularly attend primary schools, nursing homes and community events on behalf of the RSL. Their displays and educational talks are very well received by both parents and children with Kevin and Moira encouraging participation by the younger members in the audience.
YOUTH WEEK
Congratulations to Dean and his team at the Bello Youth Hub for organising great activities during Youth Week including the Paint our Poles Workshop and the Bello Skate Comp and Park Party. I highly recommend visiting the Bello Youth Hub Facebook page to watch a short video of the Skate Comp Party to see how much everybody enjoyed it.
Until next time
