Gavin and Susan Harwood have launched T3 Classic VW Tours for visitors and locals who are seeking fresh ways to explore the region.
Gavin, a self-confessed “Vee Dub” enthusiast and collector, said that restoring the two five-seater Volkswagon vans that are a feature of the tour business was a labour of love.
“The Volkswagon T3 Caravelles have good bones,” said Gavin. “They are still very much sought-after decades from when they were first produced”.
Repurposing the vans as tour vehicles was an easy decision for the couple who had been toying with the idea of expanding into the tour business for some time.
The Rainforest, Waterfall and Winery Tour is proving exceptionally popular. The tour takes passengers on a journey through unspoiled rainforests to experience incredible sweeping views across the Dorrigo National Park on one side and the Bellingen Valley on the other.
Highlights of the tour include Waterfall Way, Dangar Falls, Dorrigo World Heritage National Park, Rainforest Centre and Skywalk. Refreshment stops include morning tea alongside Sherridan Falls, shopping at Bellingen’s famous art and craft stores through to a wine tasting finale at Raleigh Winery overlooking the beautiful Bellinger River.
Susan and Gavin moved to Valery some years ago in search of the perfect place to live. They settled on an architecturally designed home set amid rainforest on the edge of the Bongil Bongil National Park. The home already had standalone guest quarters which the couple converted to “Valery Cabin B&B”.
Some of the first passengers to experience the tours have been guests staying at the couple’s B&B. All have given the tour operation the thumbs up.
“We have had great feedback on the tours. We place an emphasis on customising the tour route to suit passenger needs,” said Gavin who is also a qualified tourist guide. “We see it as a pleasure showcasing what our beautiful region has to offer”.
Valery Cabin B&B is highly sought after, especially during local events such as World Championship Rally or Classic Cars. “We have people returning year on year. They have all been thrilled to learn we are now offering specially designed tours of the area,” added Gavin.
Tours cost just $88 per person and include morning tea and lunch. Buses can accommodate up to four passengers and offer plenty of leg room. Bookings can be made by phoning Gavin on 0410 060 0043 or emailing gavinharwood61@gmail.com
