This annual event, sponsored by the Hoey Moey, is becoming more successful every year with teams from the local area, as well as visiting teams from Grafton and Inverell.
In memory of Bruce Barnier, the tournament allows players to participate in a mixed 9 a-side format over three days.
Sadly Bruce passed away a few years ago but is remembered for the tireless hours he spent promoting junior hockey in Coffs Harbour.
Bellingen entered two teams this year with one of the teams successfully taking out the final against a competitive Beaches outfit, 2-0.
For the first time the six Alford children had the opportunity to play together, which was a very proud moment for their parents.
This family has been a strong force in our association, with Justin representing our region at the Australian country level on several occasions and Talissa travelling with u/21 representative team to Malaysia 18 months ago.
The youngest of the family Aleisha was a standout as goalkeeper, not only the youngest of the tournament, but a great record of no goals against her for the weekend.
Hopefully this promising start continues for Bellingen Hockey Club teams for the rest of the year.
We are still looking for juniors – especially u/13 and u/16 - as well as senior men, although all enquiries for any age are welcome.
We train and play at the Coffs Harbour Hockey turf. For information contact either Emma Osland -contact@realities.com.au or Karen Briscoe – karenbriscoe@hotmail.com
