The astroturf outside Black Bear is on borrowed time now that funding has come through for the upgrade of Bellingen’s Church St cafe precinct.
Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, announced this morning that Bellingen Shire Council has been successful in its application for $885,718 under the Stronger Country Communities fund.
The upgrade project for Church St includes new paving, landscape work, street furniture and lighting.
The Stronger Country Communities fund is part of the NSW government’s community infrastructure investment program in regional NSW.
According to the ‘Grants Project and Submissions Report’ prepared for January’s council meeting, there is no contribution required from Bellingen Shire Council to receive this funding.
Deputy General Manager Operations, Matt Fanning, confirmed the grant of $885,718 would fully fund the upgrade works proposed for Church Street north of the Hyde Street intersection.
“The works will include replacing footpath paving to improve accessibility to the existing premises, establishing new kerb and gutter, stormwater drainage, landscaping, new street furniture and public lighting,” he said.
“Council has prepared concept designs and will soon commence a period of public consultation to seek public input.
Following this process final design drawings will be prepared for construction works to commence early in the new 2018 -19 financial year.”
