And there is no better place to do that than at this weekend’s Bellingen Plant Fair. Bring along your reusable shopping bags to browse and buy from more than 70 stalls including the region’s best growers; wheelbarrows are allowed if you think you might find yourself struggling to keep a hold of all the goodies and plants you’re planning to walk away with.
As the Mid-North Coast’s largest annual gathering for plant enthusiasts the autumn fair – to be held on Saturday, March 10 – will bring together growers who have personally cultivated items and know all about tropical, sub-tropical, native, exotic and food-bearing plants, as well as garden supplies and equipment.
Fair goers will not only enjoy the chance to pick up a plant and learn about caring for it, but make a day of it.
Market Park will be flanked by the Market Stage which will host a range of relaxing music, as well as a range of fine food, tea and coffee and sweets.
After looping around the fair you can stop and plan out your visit with the handy map provided (see next page) to ensure you don’t miss the chance from learning directly from the growers about how to develop your garden.
An remember, this year the fair is staying ‘green’.
“Last year was a huge success for not only growers and buyers but in reducing our plastic waste,” organiser Clayton Colmer said.
“So again do your bit by bringing your own bags, boxes, or barrows to carry away your plants but don’t worry if you forget. There will be some spare boxes, bags for sale or kids to carry your plants for you for a small donation.”
Those who have collected a number of pots throughout the year will be welcome to bring their plastic pots along (must be clean an unbroken) for reuse by the sellers.
If you are keen to continue the day visit Fire!, an alternative energy forum, which will be held in Memorial Hall from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
Presented by the Bellingen Shire Electricity Alliance the forum will host five speakers who will be present and discuss a range of diverse topics.
