The Coffs Coast Dragon Boat Club has a dynamic men’s crew that trains and competes regularly and are inviting new members.
A come and try day will be held on Saturday, February 17 on the Bellinger River at Mylestom.
There is a misconception that dragon boating is just for women. It's not. In New South Wales alone over a thousand men partake in this challenging sport and in various levels of inter-club competition.
For men, dragon boating provides a great core-specific workout. It helps to increase strength, endurance and co-ordination while also working the upper-body, legs and stomach helping cardiovascular fitness and improved bone density.
Besides the obvious fitness benefits, what can be more enjoyable than an early morning paddle on the beautiful Bellinger River to help improve one’s mental wellbeing. Dragon boating is the ultimate team sport and one of the world’s fastest growing water sports.
“Dragon boating is easy to learn and a great workout,” says co-ordinator Alan Bartlett.
“We have qualified coaches to teach the right techniques and our club is governed by Dragon Boats NSW Inc. And the good thing is that there’s absolutely no pressure. Members can choose their own level of involvement and either come along for a social paddle or participate in competitive events.”
The Coffs Coast Dragon Boat Club completes in local, regional, state and international dragon boat events throughout the year and hosts its own regatta on the Bellinger River at Mylestom in September each year.
Team spirit, exhilarating and intense exercise, plus the thrill of being on the water, are just some of the joys of dragon boating. Why not give it a try at the come and try day Saturday February 17 commencing at 8.30am.
Women wishing to try dragon boating are also most welcome on this day.
Look for the majestic dragon boats at the boat ramp opposite the North Beach Recreation and Bowling Club on the Bellingen River at Mylestom and stay for refreshments on the river bank after the try out. For further information contact Alan on 0431 381 981 or email coffscoastdbc@gmail.com.
