Camp Creative Canoe Building

After being serenaded by a ukulele group who had written them a special song, the intrepid Build A Canoe group launched their craft on the Bellinger River on the last day of Camp Creative 2018.

None sank and no one tipped over.

All the canoes were made of marine plywood that participants had assembled from a kit, with the course description noting that if you could tie your shoelaces (thread a plastic cable tie), ice a cake (spread some glue) and hold a cordless drill, then you could build one of these 4.2m by 750mm canoes.

Suitable for everyone 12 years and over, the stitch-and-glue canoe-building makes an excellent parent-child project, and two campers pay only one fee to do it together.

One dad from Moree, Paul Fisher, who had done the course with his eldest son previously was back this year with son number two, Max, to go again.
