Captain Danika Meenahan lost the toss, so Bellingen had to bowl. During the first five overs the bowling was tight making it difficult for the Grafton girls to score – after 5 overs the score was 1 for 12.
As the girls started to tire in the heat their fielding deteriorated and the score started to grow to 1 for 50 after 10 overs. After the break the Grafton girls really hit out and mistakes in the field became costly. The final score of 3 for 171 off 20 overs was a mammoth task to chase.
Highlight of the fielding effort was two good catches to Isabelle Ryan and Danika’s tidy bowling of 1 for 13 off her 4 overs.
However, not to be put off the Bellingen girls made a great effort to catch the visitors. Openers Danika Meenahan and Mia Craggs made a good start with an opening partnership of 38 runs off 5 overs when Mia got caught. Mikela Bailey then came to the crease and it was Mikela and Danika that were still there at the end of the 20 overs.
The chase was just a bridge too far, but a very good 1 for 153 off 20 overs is a score to be proud of. Danika ended with 34 not out and Mikela 50 not out. What a great effort!
