Something else that may be temporary, unfortunately, is one of the Lilly Pilly Trees outside the Organic Green Grocers on the Hyde St side.
Unlike its neighbour on Church St, it is looking very distressed and displaying wilting and dying foliage.
Police are investigating as it seems that this tree may have been poisoned.
This senseless act follows two previous acts of vandalism which has seen the destruction of plants, a Firewheel tree snapped in half and the theft of a steel bollard from the cenotaph area in the previous week.
“We will now have to wait until other suitable stock can be sourced. These are established trees and can only be purchased from limited suppliers,” Deputy General Manager Operations, Matt Fanning said.
“The Council is working with the NSW Police to apprehend those responsible. All available video surveillance in the area is being checked and additional camera surveillance has been installed in the precinct.”
