For the past two decades, the centre has been run by a dedicated team of volunteers with the support of Bellingen Shire Council.
Prior to the new highway opening, the centre provided assistance to over 50,000 visitors each year, but numbers have declined and Council has leased the site for use as a cafe.

However, a fully accredited Visitor Information Centre will continue to operate and will provide supplementary services such as train bookings, additional retail products, coffee and light refreshments.
Bike hire and local tours will also commence in the not too distant future.
The 20th anniversary milestone will be celebrated at the centre on Saturday August 19 and will recognise the extraordinary contributions of the volunteers.
The campaign to establish the centre in 1997 was driven by Cr Vern Hughes who rallied Council and was broadly supported by the local community.
He was granted the honour of performing the official opening on the 14th September 1997.
