He joined the Rotary Club of Dorrigo soon after its foundation in 1953, and continued to make generous donations even after he moved to Sydney a few years ago.
He was a President and Director of the Club many times and started the tradition of “Bob’s Old Bag”, where he donated a quality item of luggage to raffle at the annual combined meeting of the Dorrigo, North Armidale and Guyra Clubs.
The proceeds always went to Rotary’s primary charity the Rotary Foundation at Bob’s insistence. The tradition of Bob’s Old Bag continues to this day.
We miss Bob immensely and extend our condolences to his family and friends.
On July 11, the Rotary Club of Dorrigo celebrated its annual Changeover dinner at the Heritage Hotel.
President Christine presented her new board: treasurer, Richie Goddard; secretary, Marion Cook; and Directors: Bruce Francis (Community); Nick Wright (Club), Clare Muldoon (Vocational), Dave Scott (International) and Alison Pattinson (Youth).
We honoured local builder, Ray Francis with a Vocational award for excellence in workmanship. Our Community Director, Bruce Francis and our honorary member, Peg Parbery were made Paul Harris Fellows as an acknowledgement of their tireless service to Rotary.
We inducted our newest member Sara Hankin, an enthusiastic newcomer to Dorrigo. President Christine fined me for the horrendous gaffe of adding a non- existent “h” to the end of Sara’s name on her new Rotary badge whilst Sara generously laughed it off.
Meanwhile, Richie auctioned the obligatory pudding (donated kindly by Nola Tyson) and the bidding became extremely heated between two men who really like their puddings.
Thanks to all the Community members who attended the Changeover dinner, including members of the Lions Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, the CWA, View Club, Dorrigo Chamber of Commerce and to Steve Jenkins for representing the Council and for letting someone else win a raffle even though he held a winning ticket.
We also held a highly successful street stall on July 21 st . “We” being those who were not gallivanting around other parts of the country at the time. Thanks to all who contributed cakes and other goods.
Congratulations to the winner of the firewood raffle: Laurie Darby.
