To Business/Shop owner & Residents
The upgrade of the Bellingen main street, as part of the Bellingen Town Centre Beautification Project, will continue on Sunday 28 May 2017 with the removal of the three camphor laurel stumps in Church Street north.
It is anticipated that these works will occur in two stages. The first stage will see the temporary half road closure of the eastern Church Street lane adjacent to the Court House. This will be in place while the Court House camphor laurel stump is removed.
Following this, at approximately midday, the traffic will be diverted to the Court House side of Church Street with the establishment of a temporary half road closure. This is to enable the removal of the two remaining stumps.
It is expected that the pedestrian access on the western side of Church Street will remain open during these operations. A plan showing the temporary lane closures for Sunday 28 May 2017 is provided.
In addition, Council gives notice that the two remaining camphor laurels in Church Street, adjacent the Green Grocers, will be removed on Sunday 4 June 2017. The operation will necessitate the temporary half road closure of Church Street south.
During this time, every attempt will be made to provide access through the main entrances to the Green Grocers. These works will commence first thing in the morning and are expected to be completed by 11am. A plan showing the temporary road closure for Sunday 4 June 2017 is provided.
Work is also due to commence in Oak Street on Tuesday 30 May 2017. Minor traffic disruptions will be in place while under boring is done to replace part of the water main located near the cenotaph. There will be no disruption to water services during this time. Council will act in conjunction with the Fire Brigade with works expected to be completed on or by 6 June, weather dependent.
Following completion of the water main works, additional Oak Street works will commence.
Council will be marking out the project design in the coming days. This will provide a visual understanding to surrounding businesses of the extent of the works.
Specific discussions will be held with affected businesses regarding the sequencing of these works. Public notification will also be provided through regular updates on the Create website and through notices in the local newspapers.
Council will continue to liaise with affected businesses and the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce throughout the project.
A revised notification will be provided should these works require rescheduling due to unforeseen circumstances.
Any business or community member that would like to receive regular updates on the Bellingen Town Centre Beautification Project is encouraged to register on the Bellingen Shire Create website.
