Kylie Hilder from Forster-Tuncurry and Old Bar’s Holli Wheeler will line up for Country on Sunday, Hilder as halfback while Wheeler is the 18th player in the 20 strong squad. A third, Simone Smith from Port City, was a member of the Australian Jillaroos side that defeated New Zealand in the rugby league test in Canberra last Friday.
All were members of the Country championship winning East Coast Dolphins side in last year’s inaugural league tag competition. This season East Coast will be North Coast, with players selected from Groups Two and Three. League tag started in Group Two this year.
Group Three scored a hard fought 14-6 win over Group Two at Sawtell last month, although they were minus a number of key players including Hilder, Smith and Wheeler, who had rugby league commitments.
The North Coast team is: Sharon McGrady (Coffs Harbour), Jessica Moore (Coffs Harbour), Jakya Hart (Coffs Harbour), Laren Dam (Sawtell), Talara Morris (Forster-Tuncurry), Kylie Hilder (Forster-Tuncurry), Holli Wheeler (Old Bar), Tahlea Rowsell (Old Bar), Teegan Rowsell (Old Bar), Larissa Ward (Port City), Rhiannon Chivers (Port City), Brittany Mackay (Port City), Simone Smith (Port City), Taryn Dixon (Taree City), Brooke Murray (Taree City), Natalie Hurrell (Wauchope). Scott Jacklin from Taree is the coach with Linda Bailey from Old Bar and Jenny Alcorn from Forster-Tuncurry the managers. Leanne Cook (Macleay Valley), Des Raward (Taree) and Judith Peen (Group Two are the managers).
North Coast’s will meet the winner of the Newcastle/Northern Rivers match to be played at Wauchope tomorrow on May 20 at a venue to be announced.
