'No Spray, No Way'

The chemical-free fight against Forestry Corporation continues with a community forum and information night scheduled at the Bellingen Uniting Church next Monday.

Guest speakers include; Greens MP David Shoebridge, National Toxics Network’s Jo Immig and community spokesperson for concerned residents of Bellingen Shire Susan Weil. In addition, the Courier-Sun has been informed a number of leading local environmentalists will attend the evening and offer their thoughts from the floor.

The event aims to canvas a range of issues and ideas from the science of aerial modelling in Australia, to the impact of both aerial and ground spraying, and the latest information relating to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority’s priority list of chemicals, which include all five chemicals proposed by Forestry Corporation.

The night’s organiser Susan Weil told the Courier-Sun there will also be discussions as to “the policies of past governments that allowed monoculture plantations to be set up in high risk areas such as ours” and a broad conversation on “where the community is at, where we are going and how we plan to get there”.

The ‘No Spray, No Way’ community forum and information night will be held at the Bellingen Uniting Church, Hyde St Bellingen on Monday, March 2 from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
