Band members, Tom, Daniel, Chris and James all went to the same high school (albeit in different years) but it wasn’t until schoolies in 2010, while bonding over kava – Fiji’s tongue tingling ‘national drink’- that the final pieces fell into place and a mutual love of kava and mutual love of gypsy, ska and reggae were to lay the foundation of the band and indeed their friendship.
Since that fateful day, The Kava Kings have been headlining shows in both Sydney and up and down the east coast of Australia - delivering highly energetic performances which have helped them to earn a reputation and a following both locally and regionally
Among these shows they have played with many great Australian acts such as Declan Kelly and the Rising Sun, Caravana Sun, Chuparosa, The Barefoot Band, The Vanns, Younger Dryas and many, many more.
This year promises to be a big year for the guys with their debut E.P “Edge of the Earth” due out in July and extensive touring across the nation to follow. Recorded in Main Street Studio’s, Wollongong and produced by Cameron Gregory, “ Edge of the Earth” draws from a mixing pot of ska, reggae, dub, gypsy and psychedelic musical styles.
The Kava Kings will be playing in Bellingen at the Digger's Tavern this Saturday night.
