The film, made by Diggers teammate Cath Macauley, is described as “a heart warming and inspiring film about the very active and dedicated Rob” and will open the 2014 Flickerfest at the Jetty Theatre, Coffs Harbour on Friday, March 14.
Cath made the film for an ABC Open project and is delighted to have brought recognition to Rob, and the local area.
“When I heard about ABC Open's 'A Day in the Life' project, I knew I wanted to do a story on Rob. I had only just joined the Bellingen Diggers’ Swimming Club last summer, but was immediately inspired by the club president,” Cath told the Courier-Sun.
“Rob is a fantastic role model, a formidable swimmer and an all-round great guy. It's an honour to be part of a national event like Flickerfest, and to represent our area with our local story.”
For his part, Rob, though slightly bemused by the attention, is happy to spread the message that swimming brings both good health and companionship.
“I’ve been swimming all my life. It has kept me going and kept me active. I’ve been in the Diggers’ Swimming Club for years and look forward attending every Monday night. Through swimming I’ve made a terrific amount of friends,” Rob said.
“The film project was certainly an experience – I enjoyed it.”
Flickerfest is the leading short film festival and it remains Australia’s only Academy accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival.
The festival program presents A-list short films recognised among the best in the world, with several screening at some of the planet’s most prominent and revered film festivals including Sundance and Cannes.
Flickerfest films are entertaining, inspiring and award winning and many are world or Australian premieres.
To celebrate Flickerfest and ‘A Day in the Life of Rob the Swimmer’, the Bellingen Courier-Sun will give away a double pass to each night of Flickerfest at the Jetty Theatre, Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15.
