The girls defeated Dorrigo HS 5-0 in the first round. This meant they had to play to Coffs Harbour HS, who defeated Orara HS 8-0, in round two.
The game saw the Bellingen girls dominate from the outset, however, they could not seem to convert the dominance into goals. After 23 minutes Sam Barker feed a great ball to Jess Marks who put Jayden Morgan in the clear who finished sweetly. Half time score 1-0.
The second half saw a more determined BHS team take the paddock and it wasn’t long for the score to change. After just two minutes Sam Barker scored with a beautiful free kick just outside the 18 yard box slotting the ball into the top far corner out of reach of the goal keeper. Just a couple of minutes later Jess Marks intercepted a goal kick and made no mistake to take the score to 3-0. After numerous raids down the left flank, Katie Thorn crossed a ball in to Jayden, who touched it on to Stella Robinson who passed back to Jess Marks who finished a great team goal. In the final 10 minutes of the game both teams managed to score two goals as tiredness set in. This left the final score 6-2. This was a solid win with the girls improving with their teamwork and passing. Special mention must go to Katie Thorn who despite being only 11 had a golden second half.
The next game will be against McAuley Catholic College Grafton, who defeated Maclean and South Grafton in their first two rounds. This will be a home game for the girls with a date yet to be decided.
This Friday the Open girls will travel to Wauchope taking on the winners of lower North Coast zone, Wauchope HS, in the next round of the CHS Competition. This will be a hard game, however, this BHS team is very talented and will certainly put it to Wauchope HS. Best of luck!
