A prime black angus cow has been donated to the Bellinger Health Action Group (BHAG).
Local beef farmer, Maida Bugg, offered the animal after reading about the disgraceful state of Bellingen Hospital’s rooves.
She also donated slaughter and freight costs and Bellingen Butchery’s Kevin Aitken has offered his butchering skills to create four magnificent meat packs.
A raffle of these four identical prizes will begin this week with the winning tickets to be drawn in early June.
All the funds raised will go towards re-roofing Bellingen Hospital, which has been leaking for decades and keeping the bucket brigade working overtime with recent heavy downpours.
With the total cost of re-roofing Hewitt Block & Hartley House estimated at $337,000, BHAG has already set aside $35,000 of previously donated funds for this project and all current donations and raffle monies will be added to this.
BHAG will not part with any money until either the Mid North Coast Local Health District’s CEO Stewart Dowrick or the NSW State Government via our local member Andrew Stoner MP contribute to the balance and we will be installing a thermometer in the Bellingen IGA window so you can monitor how your generous donations are progressing.
Thanking everyone for their efforts so far, especially the amazing ticket seller Pauline Murphy.
We look forward to the day when we can move the arrow up to the target amount thanks to Mr Dowrick and or Mr Stoner.
So prepare your empty freezers for a June delivery of a quarter of a prime black angus beef (estimated value of $500 fully butchered per prize)!
The raffle of the hand painted silk scarf generously donated by Leonie Cooper-Squires of Paradise Silks will be drawn this week.
