PoP Art Project (Paint our Poles)
Visitors to Church Street earlier in the week didn’t need to be alarmed by a group of young people armed with paint and gathered around a pole. It is all part of the PoP Art Project (Paint our Poles Art). This is a collaboration of the Bellingen Mentor Group, Bello Youth HUB, Essential Energy, Bellingen High School, Bellingen Public School, Arts Network Bellingen and various other community groups to have some fun and bring some artistic flair to our streets, or more specifically our power poles.

Council has put the project details on the ‘Create’ community engagement hub as a means to collect your feedback until December 1. Visit http://create.bellingen.nsw.gov.au for photos and further information.
Heating the Bellingen Pool
Council has the opportunity to submit a grant application under the Liquor and Gaming Infrastructure Grants Program to heat the twenty five metre pool at Bellingen Swim Centre enabling it to extend the current swim season. Heating the pool will have many social benefits but it will also incur additional operational costs.
Council genuinely values your opinion about this project and feels it is important to consider multiple perspectives. Completing the survey will ensure Council has a balanced understanding of all viewpoints and this will allow it to make an informed decision that will facilitate successful outcomes for the community.
If you would like to be involved in Council’s decision-making process, please fill out the survey on the ‘Create’ Community Engagement Hub by Thursday November 16.
Strong Community Support for North Beach Surf Club
At the start of the swimming season, North Beach Surf Club was really struggling in having adequate volunteers and life savers to maintain their life saving patrols over summer. Small Clubs like North Beach are vulnerable to losing young members as they go off to university or work in the city after they leave school.
With the assistance of The Courier Sun, The Club put a call out to the community for volunteer support. From that they received a very positive response. I understand they have close to twenty new recruits signed up to do their Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate. It is great to see the community rally behind our local clubs. Bellinger Valley North Beach Surf Club provides a very valuable and important service for the community.
This season the Club has around 65 nippers signed up. The beach can often pose a high risk to swimmers so it is essential that we have lifesavers patrolling this beautiful stretch of our coastline. If you are keen to volunteer for surf life saving both North Beach and Urunga Surf Club would be keen to hear from you.
Until next time,
Cr Dominic King
