Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser said local senior Don Langley features in the book with the story ‘Bet you can’t make a wooden Porsche’.
“These local stories and other unbelievable tales in the book will transport you into the lives of our brilliant seniors. They’ll offer inspiration, comedic relief, and perhaps even comfort as the authors bare all and share their real-life experiences,” Mr Fraser said.
In fact building wooden Porsches, meeting the Pope, finding and losing love, manning fishing trawlers in a storm, life at age 101, and humorous moments with modern technology are all but a handful of stories available at your local library.
“This book will not only make you laugh and cry, it will inspire, help build greater connections between young and old in our communities, and encourage older people to stay healthy and socially connected,” Mr Fraser said.
The chapters of the book correlate with the five priorities of the NSW Government’s Ageing Strategy 2016-2020: health and wellbeing, working and retiring, housing choices, getting around and inclusive communities.
The highly anticipated non-fiction publication, bursting with 100 original stories, was launched by Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies at Parliament House on Thursday.
“These seniors’ stories are truly extraordinary and we can all learn from the incredible tales of achievement, loss, creativity and connection,” Mrs Davies said.
“The NSW Government is delighted to be able to recognise the talents of seniors in this book. I encourage everyone to download a copy or find it in your nearest library, you will not be disappointed.”
The NSW Government’s Seniors’ Stories Volume 3 will be available at local libraries from Wednesday, October 18, or a copy can be downloaded from www.seniorscard.nsw.gov.au.
