The Bellingen Eel competition, now in its 32nd year, starts Monday October 2 and runs till Sunday October 8.
There is a special prize given away each day for liveliest eel. There is also a trophy for the biggest eel each day.
This event has proven popular in the past and is terrific family day. Young to old competitors are welcome to enter.
The competition is catch and release, and instructions will be given on how to care for the eels when caught.
Special hooks (circles) must be used as there is a new rule to Increase the survival of the eels. Aerators and pliers will be discussed on day one.
Weigh in 5pm sharp each day at George Edmund Park on the northern end of the Bellingen Bridge.
For those under 16 – the Waterhole Wal Perpetual Trophy is for the biggest eel caught during the competition.
The Australian record is held by Bellingen boy Jai Tennant who caught a beauty in 2009 weighing in a massive 11.655kg – see if you can beat that!
Registration is payable when you weigh your first eel. It’s only $2 for under 16s and $5 for seniors. This covers the barbecue dinner and award presentation
There will be a special presentation at the park near the swimming pool before the barbecue. Everyone is welcome to attend the presentation.
