Alana Scheef, Megan Davis and Sasha Eberding were chosen for Music By Youth, a project addressing disadvantages faced by rural music students, who cannot easily access composers, concerts, and the wide range of musical experiences their city-based counterparts enjoy,
As part of their assessment, HSC music students are required to compose a two-minute piece of music incorporating musical developments over the last 25 years and have the work performed and recorded.
The girls have also benefited from the guidance of their teacher, Ann Phelan, and the mentorship of local professional composer Paul Jarman, who said it was a wonderful experience working with them.
“The students are inspiring. They are both humble and polite, yet have a burning passion for their craft. I enjoy it very much working with them. The Music By Youth Project adds a significant dimension to their musical development and HSC studies.”
Those attending opening night of the Bellingen Fine Music Festival will be fortunate enough to hear the compositions, performed by the Acacia Quartet, on Friday September 22 at the Bellingen Memorial Hall.
