Ex-service personnel from all branches of the military honoured more than 50,000 Australians who served in the conflict.
Police halted traffic on the Waterfall Way while veterans, family members and friends laid daffodils on the monument.
Secretary of Dorrigo Sub Branch of the RSL, Bob Denner, reviewed the Australian participation in the war, especially the Battle of Long Tan.
Mr Denner said some people felt that it might be better not to focus on those 11 years of Australian history.
“We who were there think otherwise,” he said. “It is essential that our memory of those who served is never forgotten, especially those who did not return.
“All those who served, gave, and some gave all.”
Mr Denner said of the more than 50,000 Australians who served in Vietnam, 20,000 had now passed away.
