CWA’s “Tea and Scones” image was reinforced this year with its kiosk at the Sydney Royal Easter Show producing a record-breaking 53,872 of the tasty little treats, and earning the Gold Ribbon for Commercial Exhibition, for catering outlets above 7 metres. Even more gratifying were the 68 new CWA members who joined, at the show, and 85 expressions of interest received during the event. Both the State President and Chief Executive Officer were among the volunteers cooking, serving tables, and clearing up.

Bellingen branch contributed $1,000 towards the $50,000 donated by NSW CWA to the recent Sir Ivan Fire Appeal. The CWA money was directed specifically towards fencing costs – part of $175,000 (as of 16th April) donated so far towards a total fencing bill estimated at $16 million. The four-day fire in February, the fastest grass fire in Australian history, destroyed 35 houses and over 55,000 hectares of mainly farming land.
The Bellingen CWA Branch held a minute’s silence at our July meeting in memory of Cherie Hertwig, our former talented Group Cultural Officer, and Ken Armstrong. Ken was a great supporter of Bellingen CWA, known to us as 'Mr.Fixit' (as well as for his pikelet-making skills). Ken was CWA’s willing and able handyman, and also supported Nea in her production of entertainment for many of our celebrations.
The postponed July visit to the new Urunga Wetlands Boardwalk went ahead in perfect weather on Saturday 29th, and was well attended, including two canine associates. The walk was followed by lunch at the Urunga Chinese Café.

Bellingen CWA held a street stall on Friday August 11. Winner of the raffle was Margaret White. Our annual Awareness Day is scheduled for September 9, and will include a free Devonshire tea and a trading table, as well as information and displays of craft and other CWA activities.
Our next branch meeting will be on Monday September 4 at 9.30 am.
