Bellingen Showground Trust has recently completed the purchase of adjacent land after a complex five years of negotiations and approvals.

This acquisition more than doubles the area of Bellingen Showground.

Finalising the purchase achieves one of the main goals of the adopted Plan of Management for the Showground.

The Trust now enters a new and exciting stage of planning and putting in place the expansion of the Showground.

With over 20 regular user groups, spanning a wide range of activities, consultation with user groups has already begun and the Trust welcomes any community input and suggestions regarding future use.

“We feel that we have guaranteed the future of our precious community asset by purchasing this land and are confident that Bellingen’s iconic Showground will be of invaluable benefit to our community for another 100 years.” Paul Hoschke, Chairperson of Bellingen Showground Trust, said.

“This achievement would not have been possible without the goodwill and willingness of all those involved in bringing it about. In particular, we would like to especially thank both John Lavis for his generosity in offering the amount of land and affordable price and Bellingen Shire Council, in particular Matthew Hutchings, for finding a way through the zoning laws to make the acquisition possible”
