While the festival’s committee concentrated on it’s two most popular events this year, the future of the larger festival is currently at risk. If the full festival is to return in 2018, it is absolutely necessary for the organisation to expand its membership, and to fill several of the committee’s currently vacant Office Bearer positions.
Following the 2016 event, several key members of the Festival committee left the area, or resigned, including two former Program Directors and the festival’s founder, Brian Purcell.
While a number of both old and new Committee members are still involved, additional committed volunteers are needed, and it is essential to fill all of the organisation’s Office Bearer positions, which include President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Publicity Officer. The all-important role of Program Director also needs to be filled, perhaps in a shared role capacity.
So if you have a passion for literature in any of its many facets - fiction, non-fiction, poetry, creative writing or just as a dedicated reader, you are urged you to come along to this special meeting, become a member, take part in a discussion about the future of this valued festival, and help to re-energise the committee and take it into the future.
