At the May monthly meeting, five of the seven councillors voted to increase their annual fee to $11,570.
The annual mayoral fee was set at $25,250.
The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal determines annually the minimum and maximum amount of fees to be paid to councillors and mayors. This year, the tribunal recommended a 2.5 per cent increase from 2016/17.
Council adopted the maximum fee determined by the Tribunal.
Council said an increase in the fees can be “accommodated within the existing draft 2017/18 budget”.
The decision means a total of $106,240 will be paid to councillors.
The mayor’s wage totals $36,820.
