Flickerfest is excited to be bringing the National Tour to Sawtell on Friday 5th May, 7pm at Majestic Cinemas, showcasing the Best of Australian Shorts programme, presenting a selection of entertaining, inspiring and award-winning films hand-picked from the festival’s 2400 entries, giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest shorts in the world today.
The Flickerfest 2017 tour to Sawtell will screen the Best of Australian Shorts programme, featuring ‘Passengers’, by Sawtell local director Simon Portus, about a divorced father’s strained relationship with his six-year old son, ‘Frustrated by their lack of connection, Patrick (Dan Wyllie) resorts to desperate measures to spend more time with Sam’.
Also screening are Flickerfest winner of the Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation, the hilarious ‘Fish with Legs’, with voices by Frank Woodley and Barry Otto, this (fish) tale tells of a school of fish awakening one morning to find they have suddenly grown legs overnight, ‘is it evolution or a curse from God?’, and ‘MESSiAH’, a playful collision of cultures in the Australian wilderness, in which ‘a hapless Irishman and his Parisian girlfriend get more than they bargained for when they encounter a particularly mischievous stranger’, starring David Gulpilil and written & directed by Underbelly star Damian Walshe-Howling.
Each year Flickerfest creates a film trailer which is a take on a cinematic classic. This year our Flickerfest Festival & Tour trailers feature an all indigenous cast and crew with a Wizard of Oz theme descending on Bondi Beach.
Directed and written by award-winning Indigenous director Dena Curtis and produced by Mitch Stanley, the trailer stars the delightful Miranda Tapsell as Dorothy, Christine Anu as the Good Witch, Jeremy Ambrum as the Lion, Bjorn Stewart as the Tinman, Meyne Wyatt as the Scarecrow and Alexis Lane as the Wicked Witch.
