Although being competitive in all games the women were the only ones to come away with a win.
The Magpies were first to score in First Grade when Josh Shearim managed a break from dummy half and threw a superb cut out pass to a flying Blake O’Connor who went over wide out for a try.
After a mistake from the kick off Macksville evened the scores very quickly. Strong defence from the Magpies then held the Eagles out and Arthur Murphy split the defence to score. Cameron Blair converted and the Magpies were seemingly on top at 10-4.
Late in the half Macksville with a run of possession and a couple of penalties were able to run in three tries to make the half time score 20-10.
Through any number of stoppages the second half was probably the longest half of any ever witnessed with the players being on the field for just under an hour.
Once again early on the Magpies were on top.
Some slick passing saw Corey Cross score and Luke Beaumont converted to get the Magpies back into the game at 20-16. Two length of the field tries were then called back, Corey Cross was held up over the line, Troy Robinson was sin-binned, a couple of players were lost through injury, Macksville received a run of penalties and possession and were able to get away to a 42-16 lead. Right on full-time a clever Troy Robinson kick lead to a Luke Beaumont try to leave the full-time score at 42-20.
In Reserve Grade unfortunately the players that turned up were let down by others that did not bother and so they were always going to be up against it. Macksville led 16-4 at half time the Magpies scoring through Stephen Jarrett try.
Lewis Robinson scored early in the second half to have the Magpies trailing 16-8 well into the game. In the last ten minutes of the game Macksville went out to a 38-8 lead before Mal Jarrett crashed over for Lewis Robinson to convert. The Magpies going down 38-14.
In Women’s League Tag the Magpies always had the Macksville girls under pressure. A Sarah Beaumont try saw the Magpies lead 4-0 however a Macksville converted try saw them behind 6-4 at halftime.
Maz Campbell scored early in the second half, Sarah Beaumont converted and the Magpies led 10-6.
Sophie Keough then scored a clever try and the Magpies ran out winners 14-6.
Next week the Magpies take on the Coffs Harbour Comets at the Graveyard on Sunday.
Unfortunately the Under 18s had to forfeit to Macksville due to unavailability of some players but are hoping to play against Coffs. The team would certainly welcome any new players to the game.
