This project is jointly funded by NSW EPA, through the Better Waste and Recycling fund, Bellingen Shire Council and Handybin through Coffs Coast Waste Services.
Upgrades have included two new concrete slabs, resurfacing the road surface, improved drainage, the installation of two compactor bins, new fencing to the boundary and a redesign of the site layout.
Line marking and signage will complete this stage of the upgrade, with clear unloading bays to be marked out for trailers and large vehicles to use to ensure flow of traffic through the middle of the site.
The site has dramatically improved with less wind-blown rubbish, better separation of waste and recycling and a contribution to lowering our carbon footprint with only half the number of waste vehicle pick-ups required due to the compaction of the materials.
Future improvements are also planned for the site, with the replacement of the awning to provide improved shelter and increased roof strength and surface area to support the installation of solar panels.
