- New lanes mean another four kilometres of upgraded two-lane highway between the Oxley Highway and Kundabung
- Eighty-three kilometres of upgraded highway between Port Macquarie and Glenugie due for completion by the end of the year
The 23-kilometre Oxley Highway to Kundabung section of the Pacific Highway upgrade is taking another step forward, with traffic moving to a new section of highway from today (March 14).

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the four kilometres of upgraded two-lane highway would deliver improved safety and efficiency.
“These works are part of a project that has already seen fatalities on the Pacific Highway halved since the upgrade commenced,” Mr Chester said.
“The Pacific Highway upgrade is a key part of the Australian Government’s record $50 billion infrastructure investment programme that is building our future, creating jobs and delivering a more effective national freight corridor.”
Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker said this week’s change will affect northbound traffic between Haydons Wharf Road and Barrys Creek, Cooperabung.
“A number of local road changes will also take place when traffic moves to the new lanes of the highway. These include reopening the intersection at Cooperabung Drive and the Pacific Highway with access to and from the Pacific Highway for northbound traffic via left turns only,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“Motorists wanting to travel south from Cooperabung Drive will continue to use Rollands Plains Road at Telegraph Point.”
New South Wales Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight and Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey said the existing left turn from Wyndell Way to the Pacific Highway would be closed with access via Cooperabung Drive.
“Access to Cooperabung Close and Yarrabee Road will remain in place,” Mrs Pavey said.
“While works continue, the 80 km/h speed limit will be maintained in order to ensure safety for road users and workers. After all work on the highway is completed and opened to traffic, a consistent 110 km/h speed limit will be implemented on this section, further cutting travel times.”
Of the 657 kilometres of the Pacific Highway from Hexham to the Queensland border, 459 kilometres have been upgraded to a four-lane divided highway. A further 83 kilometres of the upgrade between Port Macquarie and Glenugie is expected to open to traffic by the end of the year, weather permitting.
The Australian and New South Wales governments are jointly funding the Oxley Highway to Kundabung upgrade, with $542.41 million and $277.59 million committed respectively.
