Lions Club of Urunga held its annual Youth of the Year quest last night (February 22) at the Urunga Sailing Club for young people under 19.

Two Bellingen High School students, Blaise Borrer and Marni Besley, were interviewed by a panel of three judges, and then later at a dinner, undertook a public speaking segment as part of the quest.
The judges commented on the high quality of presentation from both students, however, there could only be one winner and that was Blaise, who will proceed to the regional final in Nambucca Heads on March 11.
The Urunga Lions Club wishes Blaise well, and are “supporting him all the way”.
The win caps off an already successful start to the year – Blaise was an Australia Day nominee (Creative Arts Award U21).
Blaise is a committed and accomplished local musician whose contributions include:
- Lead trombonist in the Bellingen High School Jazz Band and concert band
- Lead trombonist in the Bellingen Youth Orchestra
- Winner of the ‘Best Music Video’ in the ‘Rec Ya Shorts Competition
- Runner Up Music Video in the Film Producer/Director category of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School ‘Stuff it’ National Student Film Festival
- Lead actor in the school musical ‘Into the Woods’
