A forensic team has established a crime scene at the property about six kilometres out of town where residents claim a homemade pipe bomb was detonated last night.
People living nearby reported hearing what sounded like a loud gunshot at around 8.30pm last night.
Duty Officer Bob White said the force of the explosion blew out windows, filled the room with smoke and vapour and embedded shrapnel into the bedroom's walls and ceiling, but did not cause structural damage to the house.
It is believed that a woman, her daughter and granddaughter were in the house at the time but were not injured.
Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said “the investigation is in the early stage and they are following lines of inquiry”.
